Home News & Events Celebrating inspection success
We are delighted to share the outcomes of our most recent Ofsted inspection, which took place from 29 April to 1 May 2025. We are proud to announce that Belmont School has been judged ‘Good’ in all areas: the quality of education; behaviour and attitudes; personal development, and leadership and management.
Belmont School offers pupils a fresh start. Many of our pupils have missed significant parts of their education prior to joining us. Staff form trusting relationships with pupils, enabling them to re-engage with learning. One pupil even described how this helped them develop aspirations for the future.
Our recently established leadership team has introduced a broad and ambitious curriculum. Pupils achieve well and are supported to develop confidence, resilience and aspirations. Our curriculum is enriched by regular trips, including to museums and outdoor centres, that broaden pupils’ experiences.
Staff create a calm and supportive learning environment. When pupils struggle with behaviour or emotions, our clinical team offers highly effective support. Pupils are taught to manage their feelings and behaviour very well.
All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and many join us with gaps in learning. Our teaching is routinely adapted to meet pupils’ needs. A well-taught phonics programme helps pupils become fluent and confident readers, allowing them to access learning across the curriculum.
Personal development is a high priority at Belmont. Pupils learn about topics such as consent, healthy relationships, managing money, and travel skills. Activities like archery, cooking, and fire safety build confidence and independence.
From Year 7 onwards, pupils receive impartial and specialist careers advice. This helps them understand the relevance of their education and many go on to secure college placements, mentoring, or employment.
The school meets all health and safety requirements. Classrooms are bright and well maintained, and outdoor areas are used both during lessons and breaktimes. Safeguarding arrangements are effective, and pupils feel safe and cared for.
Ofsted identified two key areas for further development including the way in which new vocabulary is taught and developing further our pedagogy around in-class assessment. We agree that these are sensible areas for our school to develop further and these will be included in our school strategy. Indeed we cannot stress enough the importance of literacy and young people being able to read and communicate as well as possible and this is a key priority for the school and will remain so over the coming years.
We are thrilled that Ofsted recognises the strong progress made by our pupils and the commitment of our staff. This report reflects our shared goal of helping every pupil grow in confidence and thrive. Thank you for your ongoing support – we look forward to continuing this journey together.
