Home News & Events Pupil’s recognition for outstanding art work
Art teacher Mr Hill here at Belmont recognised a natural and outstanding talent for painting that year 9 pupil Jamie Ainsworth has.
Take a look at Jamie’s art work and what Mr Hill had to say about it.
“I wanted to get Jamie’s paint work checked by a real art studio in London to confirm my suspicions. I wanted a second opinion because I felt strongly that he has a real talent for art.
I have a friend named Justin Virdi who has been living in London for the last 20 years working with lots of big names such as Tim Burton (the corpse bride) and Damien Hurst. He is the PA of the well know Optical Artist Patrick Hughes. Patrick Hughes is internationally recognised and his work is very important to myself and many others in the arts.
The paintings show that Jamie has a unique gift and sensitivity to music and colour. He isn’t just slapping paint on the paper; he is arranging it very meticulously.
The paintings were completed whilst listening to jazz music. We have also tried Himalayan pipe music, rock, rap, classical and a range of other beats, but jazz music really agrees with a lot of kids with busy brains. Herbie Hancock is the latest music of choice as suggested by Justin Virdi and it’s going down a treat with black history month in the mix.
He has full control over the paint and when jazz music is playing, he seems to be filtering the sounds into visuals in a way that Kandinsky once did. When I asked Jamie what he’s painting Jamie said: “I can paint well to Jazz music because it helps me see”. This might be synaesthesia and the ability to see sounds. Many great artists have had this gift. I’ve no idea where he’s learnt to control the paint as well as he does though. This year I hope to gain more insight into how Jamie sees the work in his mind progressing and hopefully inspire him and his family to create more of these wondrous works of art that are of the very highest standard.
With help to build the correct portfolio of work, there is nothing to stop Jamie Ainsworth achieving the very highest level within the arts world as he has an extremely beautiful and unique ability to paint.
I will continue to work closely with staff and budding artists like Jamie to help release and unlock students’ full potential.
Jamie has a solid advantage as he is tuned into something that few seldom gain access to, and many wonder over.”
Well done Jamie!
