Home News & Events Outdoor Education at Belmont
At Belmont, we know that learning extends beyond the classroom. This term, in partnership with Woodsage Outdoor Education, pupils have embraced a range of outdoor activities that build confidence, teamwork, and practical life skills.
Highlights have included cooking outdoors, toasting marshmallows, soft axe throwing, lighting fires, and using carving tools. These experiences encourage resilience, problem-solving, and responsibility, all while giving pupils the chance to enjoy nature and create lasting memories.
Outdoor education is a valued part of life at Belmont, helping our pupils to thrive both personally and socially.
Our secondary students have begun their outdoor education journey with a variety of bushcraft activities led by Kyle from Outdoor Adventures. At White Coppice near Brinscall, pupils learned fire-making skills and how to construct a shelter. They were then set the challenge of making hot chocolate using their newly acquired fire skills, with staff on hand to support.
The pupils showed excellent initiative and communication, and were rewarded with toasted marshmallows alongside their hot chocolate.
This week, secondary students will begin their mountain biking sessions, taking on a variety of tracks and courses throughout the autumn term. The school bikes are now maintained by our Vocational Education students, who are developing valuable skills in bike mechanics and maintenance as part of their studies.
