Home News & Events 🧶 Britain at War Exhibition Visit – Enrichment Learning
On Wednesday, three pupils from Enrichment 3 visited the Britain at War Exhibition at Blackburn Cathedral. This impressive exhibition features intricate knitted wartime scenes, which have been enjoyed by thousands of visitors. Each detailed panel tells the story of a significant event from World War II, including the outbreak of war, the King’s Speech, the Blitz, rationing, life on the home front, the Home Guard, the Women’s Land Army and the joy of victory.
Many of the individual knitters have a personal connection to the scenes they have created, whether through a family member, a place or a moment in time. This makes the exhibition a unique, heartfelt and historically significant display. The exhibition is further enhanced by eight life-sized mannequins, each representing different wartime roles.
During the visit, pupils were also given an historical overview of the events shown in the display by accompanying staff. They learned about the evacuation of Dunkirk, the Blitz, the Battle of Britain, the D-Day landings, and life on the home front, including the role of the Land Girls. Pupils left the exhibition with a much greater understanding of the key events and experiences of World War II.
